Breast Cancer Screenings

Mammograms are a critical tool in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. Regular mammogram screenings can find cancerous tumors before they are physically detectable, significantly increasing the chances of successful treatment and recovery. Understanding the importance of mammograms can save lives by catching breast cancer in its earliest stages.

When to Get a Mammogram

It's recommended that women begin scheduling annual mammograms starting at age 40. However, if you have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, your healthcare provider may suggest starting earlier. Regular screenings are the most effective way to monitor your breast health.

Preparing for Your Mammogram

  • Avoid using deodorants, perfumes, or lotions on the day of your appointment as they can interfere with the imaging.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit to make it easier to undress from the waist up.
  • Bring any previous mammogram images or reports if you have them.

We understand that scheduling a mammogram can be daunting, but our compassionate team is dedicated to providing a comfortable and supportive environment. We prioritize your privacy and ensure a smooth, stress-free experience from start to finish.

Finding breast cancer early provides increased treatment options, increased survival and an improved quality of life. Marshall Health Network, offers mammograms at five different locations — Cabell Huntington Hospital Breast Health Center, St. Mary’s Breast Center, HIMG, Marshall Health and Rivers Health — so you can choose the one most convenient for you. And if you do receive a cancer diagnosis, we are ready to care for you with a comprehensive team of specialized physicians, surgeons, researchers, pharmacists and clinicians.

Don’t wait—take charge of your health today. Early detection through mammograms saves lives. Contact us now to schedule your mammogram and take the first step toward proactive breast health management.
